As an educator, I am frequently exposed to very powerful educational videos. Some of these videos have had such a strong impact on me, that they have fundamentally changed who I am as an educator. During a recent conversation with a colleague, I was asked what my favorite educational video was. I quickly replied with Rita Pierson’s TED Talk, Every Kid Needs a Champion. I was surprised to learn that this individual was not familiar with Rita Pierson or her TED Talk. Hopefully, many of you are familiar with Rita Pierson. Her story is powerful and helps to remind all educators that we are called to be champions for all students. Her video connects very well with the third video in my list. It comes from Community ISD. You can clearly see the emotion in the eyes of the students when their teacher tells them "I believe in you."
In today’s blog post, I am sharing my top 5 educational videos. Ranking number one and number two were easy, but it’s a toss-up to rank the remaining three. To help me rank numbers three through five, I turned to a self proclaimed expert on the subject, my nine year old son. He assured me, he knew the best order to put them in and insisted I begin with video number five, rather than number one.
The power of these videos come not only from their message but also in our ability to apply them in our context. I hope that these videos help inspire and motivate you to continue making a difference in the lives of your students. I am always searching for additional videos that I can use in staff development or share with my colleagues. Please share your favorite videos in the comment section below.
